Bill’s life began on April 17, 1934, in Grymn, TX. He was the son of William L. Hampton, Sr, and Mildred Rachel (Howard) Hampton. Bill attended school in Denver where he met his wife Maryella (Moss) Hampton and they were married on September 20, 1958, in Denver. He was a painting contractor and a member of the painter’s union until he was severely injured in a workplace accident. Bill loved to camp and fish and was a very handy man who could fix about anything. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan and the KU Jayhawks. He is survived by his children Jeffrey A. Hampton of Herington, Pamela ( Brian) Pertl of Bunker Hill, KS, Raye Ann Fegan of Junction City, and Cathy (Kirk) Brown of Russell, KS; grandchildren Shane (Mindy ) Pertl, Derreck (Afton) Brown of Russell, KS, Britni (Cody) Pope of Russell, KS and Taylor (Will) Fegan of Kansas City; great grandchildren Odessea, Mox, and MoJo Pertl, Hadlee, Rush, and Kennedy Brown, Piper, Holden Pope and Cora Pope and his sister Sharon Boyles of Tucson, AZ. Bill passed away on April 25, 2024 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and brothers Charles A. Hampton and John Jones and son in law Patrick Fegan. His family will gather with friends on Wednesday May 1, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Herington. His graveside service will be held at Sunset Lawns Cemetery on Thursday May 2, 2024, at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to Dickinson County Home Health and Hospice.
