HERINGTON - Waneda E. Middleton, 94, of Woodbine, KS, died Sunday evening, January 31st, 2016, at the Village Manor in Abilene. She was born on March 22nd, 1921, rural Herington, Kansas, the daughter of William F. and Frieda M. (Weber) Schlesener.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, February 5th, 2016, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with Pastor Bill Peterson, officiating. Burial will follow at the Woodbine Cemetery. A public viewing will be at the church beginning 9:30 AM, Friday, until time of services.
She was a former administrator at the Lutheran Home in Herington. She had worked in the Manhattan and Junction City areas as a LPN. In 1968, she returned to school in Manhattan for one year and received training to become a LPN. She graduated from Herington High School with the class of 1939. She was a seamstress and enjoyed get togethers with the nurses and church ladies aide. She was church organist for forty years at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Shady Brook.
She married G. Verland Middleton on September 28, 1940, at her parents’ home north of Herington. He preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 2010. She was preceded in death by a sister Paumay Schlesener in 1957, and her parents.
She is survived by a son George Middleton of Herington, three daughters, Elizabeth Ann Middleton of Santa Barbara, CA, Eleanor Browning, of Emporia, Martha “Jane” Battaglieri of Reading, PA, 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Memorials to the St. Paul Lutheran Church and may be sent in care of the Zeiner Funeral Home, Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS, 67449-3038.
