Walter was born September 12, 1925, the son of Franz and Margaretha Wiebe Busenitz in Whitewater. He attended Hesston Academy and Grace Bible Institute. He was united in marriage to Susie Wilma Ortmann on July 25, 1949. This union was blessed with 12 children. He was a crop and livestock farmer. Walter was a member of Emmaus Mennonite Church. He enjoyed reading, teaching Sunday school class, and was devoted to his family.
His loving family includes his sons, Robert (Marilyn) Busenitz of Dallas, Texas, Stephen Busenitz of Whitewater, Mark (Joan) Busenitz of Hulett, Wyoming, Ruben (Diana) Busenitz of Busby Montana, Ethan (Denise) Busenitz of Whitewater, Earl (Cori) Busenitz of Hulett, Wyoming; daughters, Fern (Richard) Rudolph of Meadows of Dan, Virginia, Elizabeth (James) Pearce of Whitewater, Lillian (Daniel) Jerred of Valpraiso, Nebraska, Pearl (Kip) Nanninga of Castle Rock, Colorado; son-in-law, Dave Funk of Newton; daughter-in-law, Rachel (Gordon) Busenitz of Newton, 50 grandchildren, and 74 great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Franz and Margaretha Busenitz; wife, Susie in 1992; son, Jonathan Busenitz and a daughter, Juanita Funk; grandchildren, Douglas Pierce; great-grandchildren Levi, Haley, Jamie, Erin, Malachi, Dani, Kathleen, Joshua, Alex, Harper, Remington, and James; his siblings, Ed, Katie, Frank, Ben, Louise, and Frieda. Walter passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 3, 2020, at the age of 94 years old.
His family will gather with friends at Emmaus Church on Sunday, July 5, from 5-8 p.m. for visitation. Interment will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the old Emmaus Cemetery. Memorial service will be held on Monday at 3 p.m. at the Emmaus Mennonite Church, 9070 N. West Meadowlark Road, Whitewater, Kansas 67154.
