Vernel was born August 12, 1928 in Arkansas to William Bell Joseph Wilson and Zella Goddard Wilson. She is one of eight children. She attended grade school and high school in Missouri and Arkansas.
Vernel met Herman Lovett, Sr in the 1960’s. They were married and lived in several places including Little Kansas, Oklahoma, St. Louis, Missouri and California before settling down in Vernel’s home town of Florence, Kansas. They lived in Florence for well over 30 years.
Vernel had 6 kids: Rick, Sheryl, Robin, Ron, Don and Bill. Three step-children: Edsel, Linda and Herman Jr., 25 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
While in Little Kansas, Oklahoma Vernel worked at a factory in Siloam Springs, Arkansas while helping taking care of cattle at her home in Little Kansas. She worked for many years at the nursing home in Florence, Kansas where she retired in the nineties. She was active in her church in El Dorado and loved to have “sing-alongs” with her church friends at her home.
Vernel loved to walk around Florence. Her walks usually took a long time, not because she walked that far, but because she would have to stop and talk to everyone she met. She loved to have visitors and would “talk their leg off”. After dad died in 2013 Vernel remained at her home in Florence before moving to an assisted living facility in Augusta, Kansas in April 2016. She loved visits from all her family.
Vernel was preceded in death by husband Herman Lovett, her parents William and Zella Wilson, six sisters, Geneva, Dee, Opal, Charlotte, Liz and Vera, two brothers Gene and Billy Joe, and one granddaughter Salena Veal.
