Steven M Herbel

Steve’s life began February 18, 1950, in Herington. He is the son of Charlie and Paulene (McCollum) Herbel. Steve was a 1967 graduate of Herington High School. He was united in marriage to Linda (McHalffey) Herbel on July 5, 1981, in California. Steve worked for the City of Herington for several years including taking care of the Sunset Hill Cemetery. He was a volunteer firefighter in Herington for 17 years. He enjoyed his Harley Davidson motorcycle and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. His loving family includes his wife of 43 years Linda Herbel of Herington; daughter Kimberly (Rob) and their children Alyssa and Sydney; son Steven M Herbel II and his children Stevie, Elizabeth and Victoria,  brother David and sisters Pat, Linda, Terry, and Susan (Everett), daughter in law Yvonne (Phil), five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Steve passed away on December 16, 2023, at Abilene Memorial Hospital. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Melanie and brother Jimmy. His family will gather with friends on Tuesday December 26, 2023, from 4-6 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Herington where his memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday December 27, 2023.
