Beloved educator and world traveler, Sara Jane Mosier was born November 15, 1930, in Kansas City, Missouri. She is the daughter of Laurence A. and Mildred L. (Dunn) Moore. Sara Jane was trained as a teacher at Marymount College in Salina in 1952 and began a distinguished teaching career that included assignments in Germany in 1961 and Japan in 1963 on United States military bases. She also taught in Topeka for 5 years and earned her Masters of Education degree from Washburn University in 1973. From Topeka, Sara Jane found herself in Herington, Kansas where she taught elementary school from 1975 – 1992. She was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Herington. Sara Jane loved animals, traveling, and trying out new recipes. Her extensive world travels took her all over Europe and Africa. Sara Jane also enjoyed the period of time she lived with her sister in Phoenix. Left to cherish her memories are nieces and nephews Sharon (Ken) Kalkwarf of San Antonio, TX, Christine (Claude) Moore-Coe of Charlotte, NC, Jamie Moore of Austin, TX and Steven Moore of Lincoln, NE and several great nieces and nephews. Sara Jane passed away on November 24, 2022, at Eagle Crest Assisted Living in Salina. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Loretta Heard and brother James “Jim” L. Moore. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday December 5, 2022 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Herington. She will be laid to rest in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the Herington USD 487 School.
