Phil’s life began on September 9, 1930, in Wichita. He was the son of Walter and Lora (Bowlin) Hartwick. Phil attended Harper High School and graduated from Wichita North High School in 1947. He also graduated from Friends University with a bachelor’s degree in business. He was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Hull on June 14, 1953, in Towanda, KS. Phil served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War as a radar operator. Phil took his experience as a radar operator in the service and made a successful career in aviation electronics and flight systems, working in marketing for several avionics manufacturers. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic order in Towanda, Whitewater and Augusta and attended the Federated Church in Whitewater. Phil is survived by his children Pam Hartwick of Whitewater, Christine (Monty) Schroeder of Whitewater, Sandi Jenkinson of Whitewater, and Roger (LeeAnn) Hartwick of Lawrence; grandchildren Jennifer Schroeder, Christopher Hartwick, Stephanie Hartwick, Kyle Hartwick, Amy Hartwick, Marty Jenkinson, Kaci (Daniel) Johnson, Lydia Hartwick, and Lora Hartwick; and great-grandchildren Braxton, Owen, and Paige. Phil passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, and three sons Terry, Steve, and Brad Hartwick. Lamb Funeral Home is serving the family. Memorial contributions in Phil’s name may be directed to the Federated Church.
