Mick W. Summervill

August 15, 1941 — October 16, 2017

Mickey (Mick) W. Summervill, 76, passed away Monday, October 16, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family after a four year battle with cancer.

Mick was born August 15, 1941 to Wesley Summervill and Mildred (Bredemeier) Summervill in Hillsboro, Kansas.   He graduated from Marion High School with the class of 1959 and received his Bachelors of Education degree from Emporia State University.  He met Marjorie (Marge) Gardner there and they married on June 14, 1964.  He taught in Kansas City, Kansas for several years before returning to the family farm after his father passed.  Mick and Marge were blessed with 3 children, Robin, Tim and Kay Lynn.

Mick was a member and deacon of the Marion Christian Church and served on the church board.  He was always active in his community serving on the local school board, county soil conservation board and the Co-op board.  He was a charter member of the Cottonwood Valley Flying Farmers Association and he made many friends from all over the state.

Mick loved his family, friends and neighbors, and always enjoyed visiting with them, playing pinochle together, and he truly enjoyed getting a laugh or smile with his affectionate teasing.  He loved to fly, scuba dive, snow ski and most of all farm.  Farming was a part of him until the very last days.  His favorite place to be was in the tractor and he was the happiest when he was working.  He enjoyed traveling from Alaska to Hawaii and several cruises in the Carribean but when it came time to come home he couldn’t get there fast enough.  Mick worked in Colorado for several summers for the National Forestry Service and enjoyed telling of his adventures.  He loved his wife and his family and had great pride in his 3 children, their spouses and 8 grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Wesley and Mildred Summervill, and his brother, Marion Summervill. He is survived by his wife, Marge, Robin (Craig) Totten; Gresham, Oregon, Tim (Amy) Summervill; Marion, Kansas, Kay Lynn (Nathan) Mead; Manhattan, Kansas and eight grandchildren: Colin, Grant, & Claire Totten, Shelby and Trent Summervill, Addie, Asher and Abram Mead.  Siblings:  John (Barbara) Summervill; Hutchison, Kansas, Sue (Dennis) Navrat; Burbank, South Dakota and sister-in-law Val Summervill; Arvada, Colorado.
