Luella Marie (Beneke) Snelling, age 88, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on February 19, 2019. Luella was known as Oma by her family and grandchildren. She was a special education teacher and began her career teaching at Choctaw, Oklahoma; then worked for the Sedgwick County Special Education Cooperative from 1977 until she retired in 1992, working at middle schools in Cheney, Garden Plain, Goddard, and Maize. She enjoyed sewing, scrapbooking, genealogy and traveling.
Luella was preceded in death by her parents, William H. and Marie A. Beneke, her brothers Eldon and Virgil, and her grandson Ryan Parker. She is survived by her husband, James, and children Doranne (Roger) Beavers, Jim (Linda) Snelling, Mark Snelling, Brad Snelling and Kay (Ron) Adams; her brothers Emil, Lynford (Shirley) and Rodney Beneke and sister-in-law Reatha Beneke; grandchildren Zac (Mira) Beavers, Tyler (Lexie) Beavers, Cody Beavers, Kyle (Natalie) Koontz, Cody (Lindsey) Koontz, and Rachel Parker; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on February 22, 2019, at 11:30 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Florence, Kansas at 2:30 p.m. on February 22. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church LWML or Fairmont Ministries.
