Lenora J Smith

Lenora’s life began on October 4, 1931, near Navarre, Kansas. She was the daughter of William and Alma (Behrens) Kracke. Lenora attended grade school in the one room Walnut Grove School near Woodbine and graduated High School in Chapman. She was raised on a traditional family farm where Lenora cared for chickens, cattle and horses. She was united in marriage to Richard Lee Smith on October 17, 1959, in Woodbine. Lenora was a homemaker and foster parent. She and Richard foster parented over 20 children. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed trips to Branson and Colorado. Lenora enjoyed antique collecting and going to auctions. She is survived by her children Mark Smith of Marion, Christine Smith of Hillsboro, Jolene (Steve) Gayle of Florence, John (Amy) Smith of Marion, and Mick (Desire) Smith of Hoisington; grandchildren Levi Smith, Daniel Smith, Andrew (Emmy) Gayle, Elisa ( Adam) Forbes, Josh ( Larissa) Gayle, Amy Gayle, David (Janie) Smith, Jacob Smith, D.E. Smith, D.J. Smith, Maleia Smith, Candice Smith, Zoe Smith and Tristian Smith; nine great grandchildren; siblings Arlene Ingrum, and Audrey Lardenois and several nieces and nephews. Lenora passed away on Thursday March 27, 2025, at St. Luke Living Center, in Marion. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother Otto Kracke. Her family will gather with friends on Tuesday April 1, 2025, from 6-8 p.m. at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion where her funeral service will be held on Wednesday April 2, 2025, at 10 a.m. led by Pastor John Branson. Lenora will be laid to rest in Grant Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to either the Marion or Florence Public Library.
