Leila Mae Schrader

HERINGTON - Leila Mae Schrader, of Herington, died Saturday, April 9th, 2016, at the St. Luke Living Center in Marion.  She was born on September 22nd, 1932, at Dallas, TX, the daughter of William J. and Mary E. (Knox) Knight.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, April 15th, 2016, at the First Baptist Church, Herington, with Pastor Darrell Geist, officiating.  Burial will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery.  A family visitation will be 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm, Thursday, Apr. 14th, 2016, at the Zeiner Funeral Home-Herington Chapel.

Mrs. Schrader was a secretary for USD #487, Board of Education, Herington, before retiring in 1994.  She was born with a beautiful singing voice and was a pianist that could sight read music as well as play by ear.   She performed at many weddings, funerals, church and Eastern Star special events.  She and her husband played in couples pitch card club, enjoyed square dancing, and bowling.  Shortly after marrying her husband who was in the military, they moved to South Carolina for a couple of years before returning to their rural home in Herington.  She graduated from Herington High School with the class of 1949.

She is preceded in death by a brother Calvin Knight and her parents.

She married Percy Lee Schrader in Herington, on June 6, 1953; he survives of the home of Herington; she is also survived by four sons Gary Schrader (wife- Liz) of Herington, Tim Schrader (wife-Michal) of White City, Bill Schrader (wife-Carrie) of Garden City, Ron Schrader (wife-Jenny) of Goddard; two sisters Billie Jean Sonnenberg of Modesto, CA, Mary Lyn Mitchell of Griffin, GA; 11 grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
