HERINGTON - Kathryn Ann Weller, 88
Kathryn Ann (Kells) Weller was born on November 21, 1929, in Billings, MT, to Ardis and Ione (Hancock) Kells. They homesteaded in Elk Basin near Franny, WY. After her father’s death in 1934, the family moved to Emporia where Mrs. Kells had a sister. Kathryn attended school in Emporia, graduating from high school in 1947.
Kathryn married Leslie Weller on December 19, 1948, and to this union were three children: Lesley Fernandez (husband-Jose), Cheryl Magathan, and Paula Starr (husband-Ted). Kathryn has four grandchildren, Jared Magathan, Sarah (Starr) Vives, Allison (Starr) Clark, and Marisa Starr; and five great grandchildren, Braedon Magathan, Autumn Magathan, Mallory Clark, Elsie Clark, and Sophie Vives.
In 1956, Les and Kathryn moved their family to Herington. Kathryn worked for McDonald’s Dept. Store and then for the First National Bank of Herington where she remained until her retirement.
She and Phyllis Allen were organizers for the local girls in Brownies. She also served as leader. She was a past president of the United Methodist Women before its closing. Currently, she was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was a past member of Chapter FC, of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was a life member of the Herington Tri County Historical Society. She was an active member of the Herington Country Club and the Birthday Club. She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to a bridge club,the Old Gang Pinochle Club, and several other card clubs.
Kathryn is survived by her husband, Les, and their daughters as well as her sister, Theda Hoyt of Denver, and a brother, Keith Kells of San Diego.
Memorial service will be 1:30pm, Friday, March 2nd, 2018, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Herington. Memorials are to the St. Paul Lutheran Youth (LYO); and they may be sent to the Zeiner Funeral Home, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS, 67449-3038.
There will be a private inurnment in Topeka, KS.
