Joyce’s life began on June 28, 1933, the daughter of Raymond and Thelma (Hinnen) Vogelman in Newton, Kansas. She attended Westpoint one room schoolhouse near the family farm in Potwin, Kansas. She graduated from Potwin High, Class of 1951. Her working career started at the Potwin State Bank and later managed her family farm. She was an Assistant Director for the nursing home in Garden City and retired as an Administrative Assistant for the Kansas Turnpike Authority in 1998. On March 10, 1953, Joyce married Joseph O. Whitmore and they had two children, Fred & Ann. Joyce married Carroll D. Taylor on July 5, 1991. She was a member of Hillside Christian Church in Wichita where she taught Sunday School, she also sang and played the piano whenever requested. She loved her family and enjoyed knitting and playing the piano. Devotions were an important way for her to start her day. Her loving family includes her son and his wife, Fred and Leslie Whitmore of Richardson, Texas; daughters and their husbands, Ann and Caesar Mercado of Prosper, Texas, Dena and Robert Pettersen of Wichita, Dhera and Lonnie Hoffman of Groton, South Dakota; sister, Mary Lou  (Jim) Jacobs of  Oro Valley, Arizona; brother, Donald Vogelman of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Katie Whitmore, Luke Whitmore, Jennifer Armstrong (Brad), David Mercado (Melisa), Michelle Mercado, Jennifer Melcher (Joshua), Matthew Pettersen, Becah Fliehs (Trey), Amy Goodwin (Jamie), Margaret Hoffman (Andre Keller); great-grandchildren, Jaina, Tobin, James, Christopher, Alexander, Taylor, Mya, Emme, James, Daisy, Amelia and Ivy. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carroll Taylor; great-granddaughter, Ellianna Armstrong.  Joyce passed away into her loving Savior’s arms on Saturday, June 26, 2021 a few days before her 88th birthday. Her family will gather with friends on Thursday, July 1, from 5-7 p.m. at Lamb Funeral Home, 120 S. Main, Whitewater, Kansas. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 2, at 3:00 p.m. at Hillside Christian Church, 8330 E. Douglas Avenue, Wichita, Kansas. Livestream of the service will be available at www.hillsidecc.org. Interment will be at 5:00 pm in McGill Cemetery in Potwin. Memorial contributions may be directed to Potwin Methodist Church in care of Lamb Funeral Home, P.O. Box 358. Whitewater, Kansas 67154.
