Joseph Albert Makovec

Joe's life began on October 14, 1964, in Marion.  He is the son of Jerry and Faye (Bezdek) Makovec.  Joe is a 1983 graduate of Marion High School and attended Concordia Junior College.  He was employed at Johns Manville in McPherson for nearly 35 years.  Joe enjoyed golf and going fishing.  He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas State fan.  Joe had been a member of the Eagles Lodge in Newton and parishioner at Holy Family Parish in Marion.  He enjoyed his pets and most especially loved and cherished his family.  His loving family includes his son Aaron Makovec of Pittsburg, KS, parents Jerry and Faye Makovec of Marion, siblings Donita (Gary) Turk of Lawrence, Jeff Makovec of Halstead, and Tim (Becky) Makovec of Marion; nieces and nephews Adam (Megan) Turk, Brian (Holly) Turk, Chelsea (Tim ) Larson, Erol (Staci) Kinkaid, Morgan Makovec, Dustin Looney, and Tyler Makovec; and ten great-nieces and nephews.  Joe passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019, in McPherson.  His family will gather with friends on Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Yazel-Megli-Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion.  Rosary prayers will be recited on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Parish-St. Mark's Church, Marion, and Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the church at 11 a.m. on Saturday led by Father Brian Bebak.  Joe will be laid to rest in Marion Cemetery.  Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the Father Emil Kapaun Legacy Fund.  Please sign his online guestbook and leave a memory of Joe at www.ymzfh.com
