John Henry Shepherd, born on August 13, 1967, in Elkhart, Indiana, was the son of Henry F. and Bonnie Jean (Vickers) Shepherd. He went home peacefully on the morning of March 13, 2025, surrounded by the love of his wife and his many pets.
John will forever be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his community, his country and most importantly his family. A graduate of Marcellus High School, he furthered his education at many colleges and universities in his thirst for knowledge studying everything from Forestry to Computer Aided Design finally agreeing to accept an Associates Degree at Lake Michigan Community College so his children can see him graduate with Top Honors and on the Deans List while they were young.
His commitment to service began early in life as a Cub Scout followed by a Boy Scout, where he achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. Every weekend and summer was spent at scouting functions or at camp which became his way of life.
John early enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp where he served in Security Forces, a duty that came with sacrifices, including an injury that led to him becoming 100% disabled that ultimately led to his death.
On April 6, 1991, John married his childhood friend, Analda Corliss, in Michigan and together they built a loving family with three wonderful children. John was a devoted father, actively involved in Scouts and various after-school programs, instilling in his children the values of compassion, strength, and a healthy dose of humor.
John's heart was always open to helping others, as seen in his tireless efforts after moving to Kansas during disaster response efforts with Team Rubicon, assisting communities affected by wildfires, tornadoes, and other natural disasters. His greatest joy came from serving those in need, leaving a profound impact on countless lives.
Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Analda of Herington, Kansas; his children, David Shepherd of Grandview Plaza, Kansas, Matthew Shepherd of Herington, Kansas, and Amber (Stephen) Harris of Fort Riley, Kansas; his adoring grandchildren, Mercy, Oliver, and Theodore also of Fort Riley; and his father-in-law Bert Corliss of Herington, Kansas. And of course we cannot forget his puppy girl Kona, his beloved Saint Bernard that misses her Daddy for his long walks and cuddles. As well as his many pets that will miss him greatly for his snuggles.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's name may be directed to the LaSalle Area Council Boy Scouts for camp scholarships www.lasallecouncilbsa.org with John Shepherd mentioned in the notes from the donate tab—a cause he passionately supported. We invite you to share your memories of John and honor his legacy by signing the online guestbook at www.yazelmeglifh.com.
