BALDWIN CITY – Johelen A. Fincham, age 96, formerly of Marion, passed away Sept. 4, 2016, at Vintage Park Assisted Living Community. She was born October 4, 1919, at Ft. Scott, KS, the daughter of William and Minnie Mae (Shorten) Bird.
She was a secretary for the National Conference of Christians and Jews (NCCF). She was a volunteer leader with the Cub Scouts, Blue Birds, and Camp Fire Girls. She was active in her children’s school PTA groups and held all offices. Johelen was awarded a life time membership to Women’s Society of First Methodist Church in Wichita. She was a Pink Lady at Wesley Hospital, a primary Sunday school teacher and a Meals on Wheels volunteer for many years. In 1976 she moved to the Marion County Lake and became active in the community volunteering at her church and PEO. For 25 years Johelen was the head of Marion county fundraising for the American Heart Association. She was an active member of Eastmoor United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husbands: Merle Barnes, Herb Beeman and Dean Fincham; a daughter Pamela Jo Barnes; and siblings: Asa George Bird and Iva Feemster.
She is survived by her children: Richard E. Barnes and his wife Roanne of Mequon, Wisconsin; Gregory T. Barnes and his wife Pam of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Debra J. Thole and her husband Norman of Spring Hill, Kansas; 7 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion. Inurnment will be in the Marion Cemetery. A Memorial Fund has been established for the American Heart Association. Online Condolences may be left at: www.zeinerfuneralhomes.com.
