Jess’ life began on May 18, 1937, in Salina. He was the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Beck) Erickson. Jess was a 1955 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Salina and attended Marymount College. He served his country in the United States Army. Jess spent his career as a salesman in the oil business for Universal Oil, and KNF Distributors. He was united in marriage to the former Phyllis (Allen) Turk on July 28, 2007, in Pilsen. He was a member of Holy Family Parish and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Jess was also a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife Phyllis Erickson of Pilsen; children Robert (Lori) Erickson of Jasper, TX, Timothy (Lynette) Erickson of Rapid City, SD, Deborah Jabara of Wichita, Teresa (Donald) Cook of Wichita, Pamela (Travis) Kelly of Wichita, Kimberly (Matthew) Downey of North Newton, and Amy (Michael) Tevis of Andale, Gary (Donita) Turk, Tony Turk of St. Louis, Bill (Wendy) Turk of Missouri, Shane Turk of Kansas City, KS, and daughter in law Luretta Turk of Marion and brother Jerry (Sara) Erickson of Wichita; 23 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Jess passed away on Tuesday August 27, 2024, at NMC Health in Newton. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Joyce in 2006, and brothers Loren and Larry Erickson. His family and friends will gather on Friday August 30, 2024, from 6-7 p.m. for visitation and his Rosary Service at 7 p.m. at St. John’s Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday August 31, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the church. He will be laid to rest in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Salina at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion is serving the family. Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to Holy Family Parish.
