Jean’s life began on May 15, 1925, in London, England. She was the daughter of Mornington and Olive Eleanor (Thake) Tollman. Jean was united in marriage to Robert Lee Bailey on May 29, 1945, in London. Jean came to Marion, Ks in 1946 and made it her home throughout the rest of her life. She raised her family here and was well known and liked by everyone for her caring of other people. Jean worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Marion for 40 years, retiring at age 80. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Marion. Jean is survived by her children Bobbi (Steve) Freeburne of Union, KY; Suzanne Legill of Shawnee, KS; and John (Pauline) Bailey of Overland Park, KS; 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Helen Steindler of Derby, KS. Jean passed away on Thursday January 11, 2024, at Advent Health in Overland Park. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob in 1979 and one grandchild. Her family will gather with friends on Saturday February 3, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Marion for her memorial service led by Pastor Steve Freeburne. Jean will be laid to rest in Marion Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to Emmanuel Baptist Church in care of Yazel Megli Funeral Home.
