Janet’s life began on September 18, 1963, in Wichita. She was the daughter of Paul and Pauline (Weins) Seidel. Janet was a graduate of Waconda East High School and a graduate of the Colorado Institute of Art. She was united in marriage to Nick Mayes on June 4, 1983, in Denver where she loved to snow ski and enjoy nature’s beauty. As a young couple, they enjoyed riding motorcycles and dirt bikes. Janet had fond memories of riding her horse Cisco, fishing, and swimming at Waconda Lake as a girl. She was a creative artist and expressed her creativity in drawing and in her free-spirited approach to life. Janet was very intelligent and had a strong faith in God and His promises. She loved nature and especially her dog Duke. Janet is survived by Nick of Wichita; her children Braden (Kacey) Mayes of Andover, and Blaise (Kiara) Mayes of Wichita; grandchildren Caroline, Luke, and Nevaeh Mayes. Janet passed away at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita. She is preceded in death by her parents, son Blake Mayes, and granddaughter Mikayla Mayes. Her family will gather with friends on Saturday June 15, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Glenwood Cemetery in Glen Elder, KS for her graveside service. Lamb Funeral Home, Whitewater is serving the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Janet’s name may be directed to Braden Mayes, Nick Mayes, or Blaise Mayes in care of Lamb Funeral Home, P.O. Box 358, Whitewater, KS 67154.
