Jim’s life began on May 8, 1937, in Herington. He is the son of Walter and Anna (Schubert) Schimming. Jim was a 1955 graduate of Hope High School. He worked on the Rock Island, Cotton Belt and Union Pacific Railroads out of Herington. Jim served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserve for six years. He was united in marriage to Jeanette “Jan” Senner on June 5, 1960, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lyons Creek and they have enjoyed 63 years marriage. Jim and Jan attended St. John’s Lutheran Church and he was confirmed there. Jim loved the four “F” s Fords, Farming, Ford Tractors and Good Food. He had an eye for detail and could remember and recall an unlimited number of details about cars, trains, and people. Jim had an amazing model train display in his basement and the detail was impressive. His favorite people were his family which includes his wife Jan Schimming of Herington, daughters Jami (Mike) Monnington of Herington, and Joni (Russ) Bunker of Manhattan; grandchildren Kyler (Madison) Monnington, Colby (Becca) Monnington, Aaron Bunker, Derek (Katie) Bunker, Blake (Trenton) Hardeman and Braedyn Woborny; great grandchildren Kamryn, Mikenzi, Finley, and Harper; and his sister Janice Plank. Jim passed away unexpectedly on Monday June 12, 2023, at Herington Hospital. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister Marilyn Moore. Jim’s family will gather with friends on Wednesday June 21, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. for his graveside service at St. John’s Cemetery, Lyons Creek. Yazel Megli Funeral Home is serving the family. Memorial contributions in Jim’s name may be directed to Home Health & Hospice of Dickinson County. Please sign his online guestbook and leave a memory of James at www.yazelmeglifh.com.
