J. Harold Williams

November 15, 1940 — September 13, 2016

HERINGTON - J. Harold Williams, died Tuesday, September 13th, 2016, at his home in Herington.  He was born November 15th, 1940, at Yadkinville, NC, the son of Woodrow W. and Edith A. (Willard) Williams.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 PM, Monday, September 19th, 2016, at the Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington, with Pastor Jim Fells, officiating. Friends may call Monday, in their informal attire, at the cemetery from 2:00 PM until time of services.

Mr. Williams graduated from Wichita State University in 1991 with a degree as a medical lab. Tech and worked at the Herington Municipal Hospital before retiring in 2002.  Previous employment includes life insurance and real estate, a ministerial assistant in Texas and California, and R. J. Reynolds Tobacco in North Carolina.  He graduated from Ambassador College of Pasadena, CA, in 1967 with a ministerial degree and from Yadkinville High School with the class of 1959.  He attended the Cowboy Church in Abilene.  He was devoted to three hobbies; bible study, flying, and western/country music.  He faithfully attended bible study at the Herington Senior Center. He enjoyed flying and served as manager of the Herington Airport Authority for several years. He played the guitar and sang as Trail Song Willie for many programs in the Herington area.  In the late nineties he sang at the Clifton Vining Festival and took first prize for his singing.  He was an active member and volunteer for the Hospice of Dickinson County.

He married Claudia A. Pearson, on October 18, 1985, at Manhattan. She survives at the home in Herington.  He is survived by two daughters Debra Davis of Kodiak, AK, Amy Williams of Osage City; a son Jonathan Williams of Seattle, WA; a step-son Michael Voit (wife-Cat) of Chapman; his first wife Mary Biedler of Burlingame; his brother Eldon Williams and a sister Zetta Gray Steelman of Yadkinville, NC; four grandchildren: Joy, Shen, Mark, Annie, 3 great grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 8 step-great grandchildren.

The family requests memorials, in lieu of flowers, to Hospice of Dickinson County; and they may be sent in care of the Zeiner Funeral Home-Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS, 67449-3038.
