Howard’s life began on August 15, 1938, in Wilmington, Delaware. He is the son of Howard and Jane (Leef) Ash. Howard is a graduate of A.I. DuPont High School in Wilmington. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1956 until 1962, spending most of military service on the USS Dyess, a naval destroyer that patrolled off the coast of Cuba during Howard’s time aboard. After the Navy, Howard worked as a boilerman for a company in New Castle, DE. Never marrying, Howard moved to Kansas to be close to relatives in his later years. He is survived by his nephew John (Deanna) Lennebecker of Florence; great niece Charissa (Lonnie) Benda of Hillsboro; great nephew Brad (Taylor) Slayden of Lehigh and great great nieces and nephews Abi, Katie, Bo, and Eli, his sister Janice Ash of Delaware and his close friends, Bernie and John McHugh of Louisiana, Donnie Cortelli, Charlie, and Richard Stapleford, all of Delaware. Howard passed away on Thursday August 10, 2023, at Salem Home in Hillsboro. His family will gather with friends on Saturday August 19, 2023, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Florence for his graveside service with Navy honors. Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion is serving the family.
