WOODBINE - Hope M. Riffel, 88, died Tuesday, March 22nd, 2016, at her daughter’s home in McPherson. She was born June 8, 1927, in Underwood, Iowa, the daughter of George J. and Emma M. (Rassmussen) O’Doniel.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 pm, Saturday, April 2nd, 2016, at Zeiner Funeral Home-Herington Chapel, with Pastor Bill Peterson, officiating. A private inurnment will be at a later date at the Liberty Township (Longhofer-Riffel Home) Cemetery.
Mrs. Riffel received her certificate from Normal Training and taught in the country schools at Liberty Center School and Walnut Grove School. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Shady Brook. She graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1946.
She married Jesse Riffel, Jr., on June 6, 1948, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ramona; he preceded in death on May 25, 2005. She was also preceded in death by a brother James O’Doniel in 1980, a daughter-in-law Marjorie Riffel in 2011, and her parents. She is survived by a daughter Linda Jones (husband-Jim) of McPherson, two sons Richard Riffel (wife-Margaret) of Abilene, Russell Riffel of Woodbine, twin sisters Betty Brantley, Bessie Marlatt of Abilene, a sister Phyllis Jackson of El Dorado Springs, MO, seven grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
The family requests memorials to the Woodbine Fire Dept.; and may be sent in care of the Zeiner Funeral Home-Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS 67449-3038.
