Hallie’s life began on July 19, 1937, in rural Herington. She was the daughter of Norman C. and Helen Ruth (Johnson) Schlesener. Hallie was a 1955 graduate of Alamosa High School.
She was united in marriage to Dr. Robert Novak, DVM on November 7, 1959 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Herington. Hallie began her working life as a dental assistant to Dr. Harry Mosier in Herington and while working there, she met Robert. After they married, Hallie worked with Bob in his veterinary practice as his partner and assistant for decades. Hallie and Bob loved to polka dance, even having their wedding dance at the Starlight Ballroom in Pilsen. The tradition of polka dancing continued for their 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries. Hallie was a member of the Hebron Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and was active in the Altar Guild and church circles. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Kansas Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary. Hallie was skilled at fine needle work and enjoyed painting. She loved to watch her gold finch’s and bluebirds. She was an avid gardener, reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles.
