MARION - Frances V. (Schattak) Kreutziger was born July 25, 1920, in Hillsboro, Kansas, the daughter of John and Augusta (Hamm) Schattak. She was a graduate of Hillsboro High School. Frances was only sixteen years old when her mother passed away, she would help care for her father on the family farm near Durham, until she was married. On November 27, 1941, she was wed to Wilbert Kreutziger, at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Marion. Together, Wilbert and Francis made their home near Canada, Kansas. They would move twice, once to Durham, and then back to Canada, to Wilbert’s family farm, where they would raise their family and farm for many years. Three sons were born to their union: twins, Wayne and Warren were born April 12, 1945. Twenty months later on January 29, 1947, Willis was born. When Wilbert’s health failed, they would retire and move into Marion. Wilbert passed away on December 27, 1985. Frances thoroughly enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren. Her hobbies included gardening, especially flowers, and sewing. She sewed nearly all the shirts for her family. She also did altering of new clothes with the dress shops in Marion. She sewed adult protectors and lap robes for the VA Homes through the VFW Auxiliary, where she was a member for many years. She also made adult protectors, lap robes and embroidered tea towels as a member of the St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary. Frances spent the last 10 years of her life with her ‘new family’ at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro, Kansas, where she passed away on October 13, 2016, at the age of 96 years. Along with her husband Wilbert, she was preceded in death by her 3 siblings: Arthur Schattak, Lydia Wittmeyer, and Elfea Townsend. She is survived by her sons: Wayne and wife Neva of Hillsboro; Warren and wife Donna of Canada; and Willis and wife Joyce of Moundridge; 6 grandchildren: Randy, Russell and wife Sonja, Jennifer, Kimberly and husband Kevin, April and Aaron; 5 great-grandchildren: Carter, Brenna, Chandler, Kaylan and Koral; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 p.m., Sunday, at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 17, 2016, at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion. Interment will follow in the Marion Cemetery.
