Fern Janice Tinsley was born March 25, 1921, the daughter of F. Ivan and Nora (Sellers) Tinsley in Canton, Kansas. She graduated from Canton High Class of 1939 and married Lester M. Hess on June 9, 1941, in Wichita, Kansas. He preceded her in 1982. She then married Virgil J. Stapelman on June 29, 1983, in Tucson, Arizona. Fern worked for Crestview Country Club in Wichita, Furley Café and was a homemaker, farm wife and a great cook. She attended the Church of Christ in Andover and in Tucson and attended neighborhood Bible studies. She was a member of EHU, enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, crocheting and making wedding cakes.
Her loving family includes her daughter and her husband, Lamoyne and Gary Eilert of Valley Center, Kansas; son and his wife, Woody and Stacy Hess of El Dorado, Kansas; four grandchildren, LaVonne (Jeff) Kelly of Grand Junction, Colorado, Lesa (Tom) Robke of Lebo, Kansas, Sheri (Donavin) Edgerle and Bryan Hess all of Wichita; great-grandchildren, Shelby (Chris) Bird, Tyson Robke, Lauren (Chase) Hagerman, Seth Hale, Lyric Edgerle and River Hess; one great grandson, Garrett Bird and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; daughter, Neysa Hess; granddaughter, Macy Hess; siblings, Charlotte Price, Ilene Tinsley, Curtis Tinsley, Stanley Tinsley and Elwood Tinsley. Fern passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2020, at the age of 98 years old.
