Evelyn’s life began on July 14, 1930, in Hillsboro. She was the daughter of Menno and Ann (Flaming) Hiebert. Evelyn was a 1948 graduate of Goessel High School. She was united in marriage to Alton Matz on February 18, 1951, at the Alexanderwohl Church near Goessel. Evelyn was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, quilting blankets, ceramics, liquid and needle embroidery and all types of crafts. She loved growing her flowers and tending to her garden. Evelyn was a member of Alexanderwohl Church and her faith was very important to her life. Her greatest joy was her family which includes her children Steven (Janet) Matz of Lincolnville, Barbara (Hal) Hoskinson of Berryton, Sheryl (John) Lance of Russell, and Bradley Matz of Lincolnville; ten grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren and siblings Merlin (Velma) Hiebert, Larry (Sharon) Hiebert, and Delora Funk. Evelyn passed away at the Bethesda Home in Goessel on Saturday January 11, 2025. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Vernetta Hiebert, brother Melvin Hiebert and great grandson Beckett. Her family will gather with friends on Friday January 17, 2025, from 12-1 p.m. at the Alexanderwohl Church where her funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. led by Pastor Lois Harder. She will be laid to rest in Grant Township Cemetery following the service. Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion is serving the family.
