Eugene Starkel

McPHERSON - Eugene "Gene" Starkel, age 86, passed away August 27, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born June 2, 1929, at Florence, Kansas, the son of Constantine and Lena Starkel.  He was raised and educated in Florence.  Following graduation from Florence High School, he proudly served his country with the United States Army.  On December 23, 1951, he was united in marriage to June Widler.  Their family was complete with the birth of a son, Jerry.  Eugene worked for Mid-America Pipeline, where he retired in 1994.  He was preceded in death by his wife, June; a brother, Homer; and his parents.  He is survived by his son, Jerry and wife Jennifer Starkel and 3 grandchildren:  Cody, Amanda, and Shane, all of McPherson; and 3 siblings:  Les Starkel, Arnold Starkel and Mildred George all of El Dorado.  Visitation with family will be held from 5 - 7 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.  The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 31, 2015, at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion.  Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery of Florence.  A Memorial Fund has been established for the Marquette American Legion, Post #253, in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm, Marion, KS, 66861.  www.zeinerfuneralhomes.com.
