Elinor’s life began on November 15, 1931, in Herington, KS, where she was born on the family farm. She was the daughter of Peter and Clara (Schaaf) Diepenbrock, and the youngest of four siblings. Elinor and her siblings were second generation Americans. Growing up, Elinor was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Herington, Kansas and a member of St. Paul’s Luther League chapter and performed in the church choir. Elinor was a 1949 graduate of Herington High School where she was the class Salutatorian. She went on to graduate with a clerical degree from Wichita Business College. After college, Elinor worked at First National Bank in Herington. During this period of her life, Elinor travelled extensively. She even took an extended trip to Alaska. Elinor married Lee Wayne Remy on February 09, 1958, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Herington, KS. Together they owned and operated the Herington Livestock Auction and Sale Barn where Elinor was the bookkeeper. Additionally, Elinor served as bookkeeper for Town and Country Real Estate and cashier for Remy Auction.
In her free time, Elinor also was an avid gardener, tending her vegetables daily. Elinor was a long-time community leader of the Burdick Hustlers 4-H Club. Since her marriage to Lee, Elinor was an active member of Hebron Lutheran Church of rural Burdick. She also enjoyed watching college basketball and had a strong love for music. Most of all, Elinor loved her family, especially her grandchildren.
Elinor Remy, at the age of 90, passed away in Herington, KS. She is survived by her children: Tim (Heather) Remy of Hudsonville, MI; Tom (Lynley) Remy of Burdick, KS; Jan (Chuck) Creger of Ridgedale, MO; grandchildren: Cydney (Mike) Sheneman of Zeeland, MI, MI; Taylor Remy of San Antonio, TX; Tanner (Lisi) Remy of Grand Rapids, MI; Corry Remy of Hudsonville, MI; Tad (Kathleen) Remy of Larned, KS; Tye Remy of Burdick, KS; Katie (Matt) Haverkamp, of Bern, KS; Caleb Creger of Ridgedale, MO; Jacob Creger of Ridgedale, MO; step grandchildren: Logan Creger, of Springfield, MO; Alexa Creger of Los Angeles, CA; great-grandchildren: Remy, Ruby, Otto, Hannah Jo, Landon, Avery, and the newest baby girl, Chloe Shay Remy. She is preceded in death by her husband: Lee Remy; parents: Peter and Clara Diepenbrock; siblings: Milton Diepenbrock, Harold Diepenbrock, and Clarine Diepenbrock Jones.
Funeral service for Elinor will be held Sunday, September 04, 2022, 2:00 p.m. at Hebron Lutheran Church, Burdick, KS.
