Edna Mae Lorei

Edna’s life began on August 29, 1931 near Topeka.  She is the daughter of Clarence F. and Johannah (Riffel) Schlesener.  Edna was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Ramona on October 25, 1931.  She attended several schools and also went to school at Immanuel Lutheran-Shady Brook in 7^th and 8^th grade.  Edna was confirmed on March 25, 1945, at Immanuel Lutheran-Shady Brook.  She graduated from Hope High School with the Class of 1949.  After graduation, she began working in the law office of Thomas J. Butler, Jr.  She also worked at J.C. Penney’s in Herington and the Woodbine Telephone Company. Edna was united in marriage to Alex Lorei on September 17, 1950, at Immanuel Lutheran Shady Brook.  She taught Sunday school, was a charter member of the Altar Guild and was an avid church worker.  Edna also worked Civil Service at Fort Riley for 22 years, retiring in 1991.  After retirement, she became an avid gardener.  Her flowers and vegetable garden were her joy and she shared them with her friends and neighbors as well as those in low income housing.  Edna is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  Edna passed away on Friday March 3, 2023 at Legacy of Herington.  She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.  Family will gather with friends on Thursday March 9^th from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Herington.  Her funeral service will be held on Thursday March 9^th at 1 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Shady Brook led by Pastor Clark Davis.  She is be laid to rest in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington.  Memorial contributions in Edna’s name may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Shady Brook.  Please sign her online guestbook and leave a memory of Edna at www.yazelmeglifh.com.
