Duane’s life began on October 19, 1933, in Herington. He was the son of Herman and Edna H. (Roehrman) Gentz. Duane was a 1956 graduate of Texas A & M University. He was united in marriage to Karla Cruz Lopez on June 10, 1997. Duane served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserve for 30 years. He began his professional career as a soil scientist in Liberty, TX with Soil Conservation Service and Bureau of Indian Affairs, then onto Billings, MT, Oklahoma, Alaska Office of Surface Mining in the Department of the Interior, followed by Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and finally, the Denver area. He also spent ten years teaching in San Antonio. Duane’s family includes his wife Karla of Castle Rock, children Kristina, Amber, Ida, Iona, and Kaylee. He passed away at his home on January 30, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents. Duane’s family will gather with friends on Wednesday February 9, 2022, at Yazel Megli Funeral Home in Herington from 1-2 p.m. His funeral will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home led by Pastor Bill Neuman.
