Dennis’ life began on November 17, 1941 in Wichita. He was the son of Clarence G. and Virginia L. (Reece) Pickens. Dennis was a 1959 graduate of Florence High School. He was united in marriage to the former Sharon Gaede on June 25, 1966 at the Peabody United Methodist Church. Dennis was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone for 37 years and enjoyed taking care of the phones in Marion County all those years. He had been a member of the Peabody Jaycees and loved to hunt and fish. Dennis enjoyed working on his hotrods and listening to classic rock and classic country western “the good stuff.” He was a family man who took pride in his immaculate yard and his garden. Dennis enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and all they did. His loving family includes his wife Sharon Pickens of Peabody, David (Lori) Pickens of Denver, CO, Darren Pickens of Peabody, and Denae ( Bob) Kyle of Peabody; grandchildren Samantha, Brandon (Traylee), Lauren, Amanda, Halie, Storm (Sydney), Hunter, Tori, Jaycee (Wesley), Claney and Landrey; great grandchildren Rhett, Maddie, Riggens and Brantley and his sister LeEsta Hanes and several nieces and nephews. Dennis passed away at his home on Thursday September 5, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Glenda Allen and Donna Brown and his brother Randy Pickens. His family will gather with friends on Saturday September 21, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. for his graveside service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Peabody. Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion is serving the family.
