MARION – Craig D. Matz, age 64, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Newton Medical Center, Newton, Kansas. He was born in Wichita, Kansas, on May 21, 1952, the son of Allen “Bud” and Margaret “Sally” (Clark) Matz. He graduated from Peabody High School with the class of 1970. On July 27, 1974, he was united in marriage to Denise Crawford. Craig was a devoted husband to Denise Matz for 42 years and a dedicated and loving father to their children: Heather, Alisha, and Jason. Craig began his long career with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad in 1975, he was a bridge and building foreman at his retirement in 2012. Craig loved spending time with his family and was very proud to have the title of “Grandpa”. He had a passion for his livestock and the family farm. Craig was preceded in death by his father Bud Matz; and a brother Terry Matz. He is lovingly survived by his wife Denise Matz of Marion; his mother Sally Matz of Peabody; his children: Heather Calhoun and her husband Mike of Marion; Alisha Freeman and her husband Cole of Manhattan; and Jason Matz and his wife Shelby of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; his 5 grandchildren: Evan and Emma Calhoun, Jonah and Jack Freeman, and Griffin Matz; his twin sister Carol Reynolds and her husband Mike of Peabody; his brother Kirk Matz and his wife Debbie of Hesston; his sisters-in-law: Debbie Bowman and her husband Joe of Marion; Joan Thrash of Hutchinson; and Dorothy "Cookie" Odle and her husband Richard of Wichita; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at the Marion Christian Church. Interment will follow in the Marion Cemetery. A Memorial Fund has been established for the Marion Central Park Tree Fund in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm, Marion, KS, 66861.
