Carolyn’s life began on August 25, 1936, the daughter of Phillip and Roma (Schrag) Stucky in Halstead, Kansas. She graduated from Burns High Class of 1954 and then went on to obtain her degree as a registered nurse from Halstead School of Nursing. She married Joseph Hillery in 1957. He preceded her in death in 1961. She then married Marvin Dale Gehring on July 10, 1964, at Eden Mennonite Church in Moundridge. Carolyn was a nurse at Scott City Hospital and Peabody Memorial Nursing Home. She was a member of Whitewater Community Church. She loved her family, flower gardening, horses, baby lambs, chickens, and enjoying the outdoors.
Her loving family includes her husband, Marvin of the home; sons and their wives, Lowell and Kay Gehring of Oxford, Kansas, Wendell and Carla Gehring of Midway, Utah; daughter-in-law, Laura Hernandez of San Diego, California; brothers and their wives, Jerald and Eileen Stucky of Buhler, Kansas, Ronald and Carolyn Stucky of Inman, Kansas; brother-in-law, Harvey Pankratz of Newton, 2 grandchildren, Daniel (Sheena) Gehring of Oxford, Phillip Gehring and his fiancé, Genna Pennington both of Wichita; 3 great-grandchildren, Shiloh, Evelyn and Hannah.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Joseph Hillery; son, Michael on May 7, 2021, and a sister, Evelyn Pankratz. Carolyn passed away peacefully into the arms of her Savior on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at the age of 84 years old.
Her family will gather with friends on Wednesday, May 12, from 6-8 p.m. at the Whitewater Community Church. Interment will be held Thursday, May 13, at 9:30 a.m. in the Swiss Cemetery in Whitewater. Memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. also at Whitewater Community Church, 703 E. Central, Whitewater.
