Ft. Worth, Texas - Carol Louise Pool, age 77, went home to her Saviour, Jesus Christ on May 19, 2016. She was born Dec. 9, 1938, in Junction City, Kansas, the only child of Lyndell and Louise Scates. In 1952, she met the love of her life, Max. They married four years later. His military career in the Air Force took them to many different bases: Lake Charles, Louisiana; Westover AFB, Massachusetts; Anderson AFB, Guam; Loring AFB, Maine; and finally, the place they called home, Carswell AFB in Fort Worth, Texas, where they retired.
Later in life, Carol began working at a retail pharmacy which turned into the joy she loved. She also worked at Cooks Children's Hospital for many years and then briefly at a life insurance company. During that time, Max and his sons opened Woodhaven Custom Wood Cabinets, a family business. Carol would help wherever she was needed, such as secretarial duties, building cabinet doors or running errands to pick up lumber. Carol always enjoyed being outside. In her younger years, she enjoyed coaching fast pitch softball, gardening, hiking and camping. Carol was a giving person. She was always willing to help in any way. She was a very wise lady with a heart to serve others.
The last few years of her life she was diagnosed with Alzheimer and dementia. This was a struggle for her. She moved to Alaska in November 2014. On May 5, 2016, she was diagnosed with Leukemia and the Lord saw fit to call her home just two weeks later. Even though this was a difficult time in her life, she made the best of the situation, the best she knew how. She often would see others struggling and she would remind them, "We have a lot to be thankful for." Carol will be greatly missed by so many people.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents and son Dennis L. Pool. Carol is survived by her husband, Max, of 59 years; sons Kenneth Pool (wife, Melissa), of Aledo, Texas; Scott Pool (wife, Debbie), of Millsap, Texas; daughter Delynn Fairchild (husband, Michael), of Fairbanks; daughter-in-law Jill Pool, of Cresson, Texas; grandchildren Kevin Pool (wife, Alisha), Matt Pool, Chris Pool (wife, Sara), Casey Pool, Zen and Tristan Pool, all of the Fort Worth, Texas area; Micah (wife, Gabby), of Bryant, Arkansas; Tanna, Jordan, Madelyn, Benjamin, Samuel, Nathanael and Sarah Fairchild, of Fairbanks; and great-grandchildren Aislinn Pool, Micah, Lily, Morgan and Hudson Pool and Noah Pool.
A celebration of Carol's life will be held in Hope, Kansas on June 9, 2016.
