Carney L. Hinz

December 19, 1938 — December 25, 2015

Carney Lee Hinz, of rural Newton, 77, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 25, 2015, at his home surrounded by family.

He was born December 19, 1938, to Glenn & Viola (Trego) Hinz in Newton, KS.  He grew up in the same mile section where he had two different homesteads and the land he helped farm.  He graduated from Burns High School in 1957.    Carney was a member of the Army National Guard.  He married Marilyn Marie Perley on July 14, 1962.  They were married 47 years.  Carney grew up farming; he continued to farm along with operating the township maintainer for Fairmount Township.  He began working as an oil field pumper for Petro Fina and Baker Oil in the fall of 1962.  He continued pumping until the fall of 2015.  He worked for several area oil companies, ending with Hartman Oil and Te-Pe Oil.  Carney was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years. 

Carney’s focus throughout his life was his family.  He and Marilyn attended every ballgame, concert and school activity of their three daughters and then continued that support at events for their five grandchildren.  Carney was the official basketball scorekeeper at Whitewater Junior High and Fredric Remington High school almost 20 years. 

Throughout his lifetime Carney served on various community boards including Fairmount Election Board, Rural Water District #7, Whitewater Fire District and was a trustee for Fairmount Township for over 30 years.

Carney was a member of the Whitewater Center Church and later Federated Church, where he attended faithfully for the last six years.  His kindness and generosity touched many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew Eddie Hinz, brother Glenn Allen Hinz, nephew Jeremy Solomon and his devoted wife Marilyn.   Survivors include his brother Wayne Hinz and three loving daughters:  Carla (Pat) Ryan of Whitewater, Cathy (Mark) Willis of Newton, Callie (Mike) Hill of Whitewater, grandchildren:  Scott (Erica) Ryan, Carly and Matt Willis, Mikayla and Mikinzie Hill, great grandson Peyton, great granddaughter Paislee and numerous nieces and nephews. 

The funeral service will be Wednesday, December 30th at 10 a.m. at Federated Church in Whitewater.  Visitation will be Tuesday, December 29th from 6-8 p.m. also at Federated Church.  Memorials can be made to:  Remington Athletics.
