Betty’s life began on September 12, 1939, in Fairview, OK. She was the daughter of Elmer and Inez B. (Jester) Duvaul. Betty was united in marriage to Delbert “Wayne” Penrod, Sr. on August 7, 1959, in Norton, KS. She worked as the library director of the Hope Public Library for many years. Betty was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Hope Library Board and had been the Poppy Flower chairperson. She is survived by her children Delbert “Wayne” Penrod, Jr. of Herington, Jeanette Wranosky of Belle Plaine, Carey (Dawn) Penrod of Council Grove and Shawn Penrod of Hope; eight grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and relatives. Betty passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2024, at her home. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne, sister Bernice Loftin and brother Glen Duvaul. Her family will gather with friends on Monday October 7, 2024, at 11 a.m. for her graveside service at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery near Fort Riley. Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Herington is serving the family. Memorial contributions in Betty’s name may be directed to the Hope American Legion Auxiliary or the Hope Community Library.
