LIFE SKETCH for ALTA MAE SAVAGE
Alta Mae Robinson was born March 24th, 1923, at the rural Florence home of her parents, Samuel and Florence (Piper) Robinson.  She attended her early grade school years in Zeandale, and Fairplay schools, she then attended and graduated from Florence High School.  After receiving her degree in education with an emphasis in Bible from Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma, she taught Bible in Stuart’s Draft, Virginia, and later taught Kindergarten in Peabody, Kansas.  Throughout her life she often remembered and shared the details and life stories of her students in those years, particularly those in the deeply impoverished Virginia area where she taught.  February 24th, 1950, she married Loyd Savage of Florence, and became the Mom of Howard and Brad.  Later, Ray, Rex, Randy, and Ron were added to “The Clan”.  As a mother and farm wife, her emphasis was on raising her brood and helping their Dad with the farm.  She was a life long member of the Florence Christian Church where she taught Sunday School for over 60 years.  During those years, she taught hundreds of kids, including her own and some of her grandkids as well.  She was locally famous for the homemade cinnamon rolls she often shared with her classes.  After “retirement” from actively teaching Sunday School, she was an avid supporter of those still teaching and sponsoring youth activities.  Students noticed her interest in them to such a degree that several came to sit with her during her final few days, wanting nothing more than to offer support to she and her family. Moving from her beloved farm home to Marion Assisted Living in October of this year, she there discovered old friends, and made new friends as well, all of whom she treasured and enjoyed each of her days. Early on Christmas morning, our Mom headed home to be with our Lord.  While we will miss her greatly while parted, we take comfort in the knowledge that we will be rejoined in what to her, will seem to be only a moment. See you soon Mom!
