Al’s life began on January 13, 1925, the son of Albert and Vercy (Mauck) Gantz in Anthony, Kansas. He served his country during WWII in the US Navy from 1943-1946 and married Ruth Louise Peters on August 9, 1947, in Oaklawn, Illinois. Al had a lifetime career with the Soil Conservation Service and enjoyed nature photography, gardening, and antique clocks. He worked on and repaired clocks and was a member of the National Clock Association.
His loving family includes his daughters, Barbara Doyle of Richardson, Texas, Alice Martin (Tom Holtgrew) of Bonner Springs, Kansas; son, Howard Gantz (Donna) of Kingman, Kansas; grandchildren, Brian Doyle (Amy), Stephen Doyle (Angela Capio), David Gantz (Brittany Lagemann), Krystal Gantz Fensky (Travis Fensky), Geoffrey Martin (Angie Flax), and Andrea Martin; six great-grandchildren, Rose, Stella, Max, Bella, Benjamin, and Lois; brother, Ralph L. Gantz of Greenville, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth and a brother, Delbert Gantz. Al passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2020, at the age of 95 years old.
His family will gather with friends on Thursday, March 19, from 10-11:00 a.m. Funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. both at Yazel-Megli-Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm in Marion. He will be laid to rest in the Marion Cemetery.
