Allen’s life began on Friday, May 30, 1941in Glenville, North Carolina. He was the son of Mildred Fisher. He was raised by his grandparents, Sam R., and Edith (Pruett) Fisher. Allen attended school in Glenville and graduated from Glenville High School in 1958. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country from 1959-1963. Allen was stationed at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka and served overseas in Okinawa, Japan, and Morocco. To his great fortune, Allen met Delores Miller at a dance in Topeka while he was in the service. He and Delores married on August 4, 1962, at the Air Force Base chapel in Topeka. After he was honorably discharged from the Air Force, the young couple returned to North Carolina and set up housekeeping in Brevard, where Al worked at the E. I. DuPont Corporation, making X-ray film. They returned to Kansas in 1965, where Al helped his father-in-law farm, and later worked for a commodity company in Junction City, the Bank of Herington, and owned a car dealership in Herington. He went to work for the Morris County Road Commission and retired in 2007. Allen was a member of the Hebron Lutheran Church where he had served on the church board for many years. He is survived by his wife Delores Fisher of Herington; children David (Kellie) Fisher of Wellington, and Cathy Fisher of Wichita; grandchildren Joe (Mariel) Fisher, Amanda Fisher, Abigail Fisher, and Tabitha ( Lane) Lowery; three great grandchildren Aceyn, Jaxyn, and Sophia; half-brother Gary Nicholson of Glenville, NC; three sister in laws Doris Cain of Little Rock, AR, Carol (Riff) Riffel of Herington, and Phyllis (Fran) Haefner of Amarillo, TX and several nieces and nephews. Allen passed away on Friday April 4, 2025, at Diversicare of Council Grove. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Sam R. and Edith Fisher, his mother Mildred Nicholson, his brother-in-law Tom Cain, and half-brother Sam Nicholson. His family will gather with friends on Friday April 11, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Hebron Lutheran Church, Burdick for his memorial service led by Pastor Jim Peters. Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Herington is serving the family. Memorial contributions in Allen’s name may be directed to Hebron Lutheran Church.
