Don August Terreault

Don August Terreault, 72, passed away on September 20, 2026, in Salina, Kansas. Paul and Barbara (Gregg) Terreault welcomed their baby boy on June 30, 1954, in Anchorage, Alaska. Don lived a life marked by devotion to family, steady work, and a heart that gave fully and loved without reservation. He graduated from the class of 1971 from Hinkley High School in Aurora, Colorado. After high school, he joined the Army, beginning a chapter of service that reflected the hardworking spirit that would remain with him throughout his life. He later became a police officer in Cherokee, OK, and finished his career as a police officer in Herington, Kansas, a role that suited both his strength and his sense of purpose. He especially loved serving as a K9 officer. In another season of life, he also enjoyed being a truck driver, taking pride in honest work and the responsibilities it carried. On May 11, 1985, in Aurora, Colorado, he married Suenell Rhoda, the woman who described him as her God-given gift. Their marriage stood at the center of his life for over 41 years, and the love he gave his family was steadfast, fierce, and unconditional. Don was hard-working and had a big heart. He supported those he loved, gave generously of himself, and cared deeply for the people around him. He was also wonderfully particular about details—such as folded clothes, cup lids, and making sure things were where they belonged. Those familiar habits became part of the texture of everyday life with him, remembered now with affection and a smile. He hated winter and the cold but found joy in the things that delighted him: Star Wars, movies, his gobby gobby (bald eagles), and the work he loved, whether alongside a K9 partner or behind the wheel of a truck. Some of the memories that remain most vividly are the small and tender ones. He was never caught without his diet Mountain Dew and loved sharing it with his grandkids, even when they were only a few months old, and he loved his mom’s oatmeal scotchies. These simple moments, full of humor and warmth, speak to the kind of man he was—loving, memorable, and entirely himself. He is survived by his wife, Suenell (Rhoda) Terreault. He also leaves behind his children and the families they built around him: daughter Nicole (Bruce) Terreault of Junction City; daughter Larissa (Dawayne) Krepel of Manhattan; daughter Janelle (Allan) Stroh of Clay Center; and son Thomas (Kassie) Terreault of Hope. He is also survived by his grandchildren Alexis, Ka’Lianna, Kade, Kathryn, Tessa, Hayden, Kolby, Andrea, Kallie, Maci, Connor, and Matthew, and by his great-grandson, Gunner. The love he poured into his family will continue to be carried forward in each of them. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Terreault; his mother, Barbara Terreault; his sister, Michelle; and his grandson, Corin. Their memory remained part of his life, and now he is remembered alongside them with love. A memorial service will be held on October 3, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Herington, 210 E Hawley St, Herington, Kansas 67449.
